Nike Internationalist Give 'Em Hell 1981 vintage sneaker ad

We’re back kicking off 2022 strong with this 1981 vintage Nike ad for the Internationalist. Nike has brought back these runners for re-issues in recent years and we’re still fans.

Ad info is below:

GIVE 'EM HELL.

Don't leave the store with these shoes in a box. Put them on. And take the longest, cruelest way home possible. You won't be punished. Because we built the Internationalist for runners who think nothing of knocking off 75 to 100 miles a week. On asphalt, dirt, concrete and mud. That's when comfort isn't a luxury, but a necessity. That's when you need a shoe that can take it. With thick EVA sponge mid-sole. A PermaFoam insert that molds to the contour of your foot. And notched heel counter to eliminate pressure on the lower Achilles. The Internationalist is curve-lasted. with a Variable Width Lacing System for a perfect fit. And a revolutionary new Waffle outsole for greater stability. But if you're not ready to abuse this shoe, you're not ready to wear it. The Internationalist. Not for the faint of foot.

Hoop Stars: Official NBA brand 1971 4 stripe basketball shoes

We’re kicking off December going deep into the archive. This old school ad is from 50 years ago when the National Basketball Association had their own brand of sneakers. During that time they were represented by the 4 stripe logo and looked a lot like the adidas Superstar and Converse All-Star. The NBA eventually partnered with Kinney Shoe Stores later in the 1970’s to put out the Kinney NBA model shoes.

Winners will be treated just like NBA All-Stars, attending banquets, practices, and finally being honorary team members at the game. And, they'll look like NBA All-Stars, too, with official game uniforms, NBA Basketball Shoes, and team travel bags. In addition, each winner's school will receive a 16 mm movie projector and an NBA film. Mizuno MZ-450 MZ-650 and MZ-84 vintage sneaker ad from 1983

We don’t cover Mizuno sneakers often but today we have a 1983 vintage running shoe ad for the MZ-450, MZ-650 and MZ-84 models. These shoes featured Mizuno’s ‘Cassette Insole System’ pads which could be customized to the comfort of whoever wore them.

Ad info is below:

How to buy one pair of shoes and take home 81.

We would like to offer you one of the best deals going in running shoes. The Mizuno Cassette Insole System. It's standard on three new '83 Mizuno running shoes. And with it, you can customize any pair to your body weight and shock absorption six ways to Sunday. (81 at last count.)

We designed it for the simple reason all runners are not created equal—even when they wear the same size shoe. For all the difference it makes, the Cassette Insole System is uncomplicatedly simple. It consists of two molded cassette insoles, and two sets of six different fore-foot and heel pads. You choose the pad that's right for your toe, your heel, your right foot, your left foot — all depending on your weight and what shock absorption and stability you're after. (The chart shows a recommended place to start.) But now for the hard part. Choosing which of Mizuno's technologically advanced shoes to put them in. And here you'll choose from three new models. The Mizuno MZ-450 and MZ-650 all-purpose trainers. Both have the special go-farther, last-longer features you expect from Mizuno (RB mid-sole and double heel counter, to name two).

And while the MZ-450 is made for rough terrain—with a black com-pounded outsole using multi-studs on the whole, studs on the edge and a keyhole heel design for extra shock absorption and stability — the MZ-650 is made for asphalt. In this case, with a two-level wave outsole that's made to give you extra traction and shock protection. Or then there's the running shoe that stands by itself. The MZ-84 racer— with more patented features than a 10K race has miles. For starters, a patented pronation bar prevents your foot from pronating, yet allows your foot to be positioned naturally (unlike other pronation wedges). And a patented heat process midsole of molded RB material gives you all the endurance of our standard RB, with an even lighter weight for faster starts. The Mizuno Cassette Insole System is available on all three models. Which we admit may make your decision about which to buy a bit difficult. But the happy fact is, no matter which you choose in the store, you'll always have 80 more to choose from at home.

Osaga KT-26 1979 vintage running shoes ad for the human race

Here’s an old school ad from 1979 for the Osaga KT-26 model running shoes. These shoes featured bio-kinetic construction and Kinetic levers.

Ad info is below:

the KT-26
the answer to your running demands

One of the biggest hazards of running is shock impact on the foot. The bio-kinetic construction of the KT-26 dissipates shock upon impact, deflecting it away from the foot and leg. Kinetic levers spread upon impact absorbing the shock and forcing it outward. Part of the absorbed shock, however, is stored in the levers and then released during the flow of ground contact, springing the runner forward. This is the principle of kinetic response. The levers are designed at an angle which causes them to lie parallel to the ground at the peak compression point, providing maximum stability. The center section of the levers is slightly offset to the outside of the heel for optimum benefit during the early portion of heel strike. The sole will conform to irregular surface areas providing excellent traction. Additional reinforcement is built up between the levers on the inside shoulder of the heel area to minimize ankle proncrtion and maximize sole life. The KT-26 is the running shoe designed for you, to help you run farther, safer.

Brooks 1980 Super Villanova vintage running shoes ad

Here’s another 1980 vintage sneaker ad, this time for the Brooks 1980 Super Villanova running shoes.

Ad info is below:

LESS SHOE FOR YOUR MONEY.

The suggested list price of our new Super Villanova lightweight trainer is only $29.95. Now, a lot of training shoes sell for roughly that price. But the Super Villanova weighs in at a mere 270.3 grams in size 9. Which is pretty amazing, when you compare it with these other training shoes:

Shoe Weight Suggested Retail Price
Brooks Super Villanova 270.3g $29.95
Nike Daybreak 306.1g $42.95
Adidas Marathon Trainer 289.2g $39.90
Etonic Stabilizer
Osaga KT-26 326A8 327.7g $39.95 $39.95

Source October 1979, Runner, World

But just because the new Super Villanova is light, doesn't mean it's less comfortable. There's a mildly flared heel and a My/T/ Lite' midsole, which help to make the new Super Villanova comfortable and 10% more shock absorbent than it was before. The sole wears twice as long, too. That's because it's made of a new rubber compound called Brooks B-10, and it's triple reinforced at the critical heel strike point. (No wonder the Super Villanova earned a 5-Star Rating for 1980.)
