Ad info is below:

TRAIL BLAZING

New Balance's Trail 355 is a new kind of trainer — one specifically designed to meet the performance and durability requirements of road training as well as trail or cross-country work. The new Nora-Tuff° outer sole Is composed of high-quality carbon rubber in a flat-head stud design — which means that the Trail 355 guarantees both road-flat durability and maximum rough terrain performance. An earlier version of this innovative shoe was rated number one (in ball and heel cushioning both) during the recent Runner’s World lab tests. The new Nora-Tuff sole combines this maximum shock attenuation with new radial-tire durability; and the rounded flat-head studs provide excellent traction on all surfaces, from mud, sand and snow to wet, slick asphalt. Add New Balance’s new boxier toe and snug-fitting heel counter, as well as the Trail 355’s foam-backed polyester-mesh upper for remarkable comfort and breathablIity, and you have a shoe that's not only blazing trails today, but will be setting the pace among trainers for years to come. Men and women, 31/2. to 15EEEE, in Royal Blue with Yellow.

Width Sizing Means Fit, Comfort and Performance.

320 Rated number one a year ago, this year's 320 is even better, with several important fit, comfort and performance improvements. New one-piece upper and padded tongue. New fuller, boxier toe resulting from a broader last design. New foam-backed tricot heel cup that fits snugly all around for improved support. New outer sole wrap at the toe for increased durability. And New Balance is still the only shoe company offering full width-sizing and an arch-support saddle. Men and women, 31/2AA to 15EEEE, in Royal Blue with White.

CrossCountry Off-road competition shoe that's durable and cushioned enough to take the hard surfaces too. The light, flexible, flared Alphacrepe sole has a studded configuration that maximizes traction while minimizing dirt pick-up; and the soft, comfortable upper and padded tongue incorporate New Balance's new broader and higher toe design. It's a light, very protective racing flat. Men and women, 31/2AA to 15EEEE, in Orange with White.

SuperComp Multi-colored and brush-soled, the SuperComp is New Balance's durable lightweight racing flat. The stretch foam insole minimizes friction and heat build-up while the breathable polyester-mesh upper maximizes ventilation. The soft crepe wedge/midsole combination offers reduced weight and increased shock absorbency, while the brush sole provides excellent traction on all surfaces. Men and women, 31/2AA to 15EEEE, in Yellow/ Orange/Red with White.

Brooks Chariot 1983 vintage running shoe ad

Here’s an old 1983 vintage sneaker ad for the Brooks Chariot model runners.

Ad info is below:

Rock and roll might be good for your ears, but definitely not for your feet. Read how the new Brooks® Chariot helps control this curious problem.

Your muscles have a single job to do when you run. Move you forward. All runners, unfortunately, lose some of this forward motion the instant their foot strikes the ground. And it doesn't take a degree in medicine to figure out why. The force of heel strike sends shock waves in every direction. Much of this shock is absorbed by your shoe's cushioning. But a lot of it causes your foot to slip from side to side. Technically it's called lateral instability. We simply call it "rock and roll."

ROCK AND ROLL IS NOT HERE TO STAY
At Brooks® our commitment is to design running shoes that help you run faster, lose less energy and stay as injury free as possible. Shoes that aid the natural motion of the foot. And that means controlling the rock and roll that saps energy and leads to injuries. Such a shoe is the new Brooks® Chariot.

THE DIAGONAL ROLLBAR

With the Chariot, Brooks® introduces a totally new concept in controlling excessive motion. In the midsole area we have inserted the Diagonal Rollbar, a firmer material that increases in thickness from the outside of the shoe to the inside. It's thinner on the outside so the heel gets the cushioning it needs at heel strike. It becomes wider toward the inside of the shoe to prevent the foot from rolling too far inward or over pronating. Unlike other attempts to deal with this common problem, the Diagonal Rollbar does not throw up an inflexible barrier which might interfere with the natural motion of the foot. Rather, it provides a graduated increase that can be compared to the foot rolling up a hill. This unique solution maintains the foot in a neutral plane.

THE WINNING COMBINATION: STABILITY AND FLEXIBILITY

Along with the Diagonal Rollbar, the Chariot offers the runner a remarkable number of control and flexibility features. A few of these are: a heavy-duty heel counter that extends to the middle of the foot and is reinforced at the critical flex area where the counter joins the midsole; our exclusive Competition Last' is board lasted in the rear for stability, slip lasted up front for flexibility; a Tri-layer Footbed' system comfortably molds to the imprint of your foot after the first few runs; under it all is a new, lightweight outsole engineered for flexibility, traction and long-running wear on all types of surfaces. Let your feet experience just how good running can be in the Brooks® Chariot. It'll be music to their soles.

Etonic Stabilizer 1980 vintage sneaker ad

Today we’ve got a 1980 vintage running shoe ad for the Etonic Stabilizer model runners. These runners had a double lacing system and some other interesting engineering. This original vintage Etonic Stabilizer print ad is available at our web store RewindRunning.com.

Ad info is below:

Without the rear-foot lacing system the heel can slide in the heel cup of the shoe.
The rear-foot lacing system holds the heel snug for greater running control.

THE STABILIZER.
WHY TWO LACES ARE BETTER THAN ONE.

The Etonic Stabilizer helps protect your feet from torquing stresses at the heel and contributes to proper leg and foot alignment: the rear-foot lacing system*, pioneered by Etonic, gives added control, stability and reduces heel slip. And the more you run, the more your feet can feel the extra difference of Etonic engineering. Extras like the Dr. Rob Roy McGregor' SUOPHAS* (Single Unit One-Piece Heel and Arch Support) which pushes nature's padding under the heel and cushions the force of heel strike. A wide toe box minimizes irritation, and a tough Z-studded, three layer outersole provides excellent traction. The Etonic Stabilizer. Double lacing to double your running protection.

Bata North Star Running Shoes Commercial 1978

Here’s a vintage sneaker commercial for Bata’s North Star running shoe models from 1978. The music in this ad has some David Bowie ‘Fame’ vibes.

Saucony Hornet, Trainer 1980, Ms. Gripper and Dove II vintage sneaker ad

Here’s a 1979 vintage sneaker ad for Saucony featuring the Hornet, Trainer 1980, Ms. Gripper and Dove II vintage running shoe models. The Hornet and Trainer 1980 received Runner’s World 5-star honors.

Ad info is below:

Not one, but two Saucony running shoes rated 5-Stars by Runner's World

Hornet — This Runners World 5-Star Shoe is listed as “an excellent shoe. Very good construction, excellent buy. We recommend this shoe highly." It was ranked #1 for rearfoot impact absorption

Trainer 1980 — Given a #1 ranking for flexibility, this Runner's World 5-Star Shoe was called "A brand new excellent shoe… We recommend this shoe." It’s made with soft foam replacing the insole board.

Ms. Gripper — Rated 4-Stars by Runner's World. “Excellent rearfoot cushioning." Saucony's second generation in a long line of fine women's running shoes.

Dove II — "Excellent rearfoot impact protection... " says Runner's World. "Best buy for the money. We recommend it." Rated an RW 4-Star Shoe.

Were pleased. But were not surprised: We've been making quality shoes in Kutztown since 1898. We know what it takes to make a shoe that provides maximum comfort and support. So we're not surprised that these two were given top ranking. Or that our two women's models are Runner's World 4-Star Shoes.

The only thing surprising about Saucony is our price. Each of our top-rated shoes is the lowest priced shoe of its type. But we're not about to sit back and rest on our stars. We're committed to old-fashioned pride of craftsman-ship. And we're dedicated to finding design improvements to make our top-rated shoes even better. So don't be surprised to find Saucony out in front. In the ratings ... and the running.

WHY BUY A COPY WHEN YOU CAN RUN WITH THE ORIGINAL?

A funny thing happened back in 1974 when we came out with our first Nike Waffle Trainer. Almost everybody except serious runners laughed. "It'll never last," some said. "Looks like a shoe made to run on ice," they chuckled. Well, they're not laughing anymore. In fact, most major shoemakers have tried to copy our Waffle Trainer. Because it has become the best selling training flat ever made. The classic running shoe. So if you're looking for the real thing, accept no substitutes for the original. Nike Waffle Trainer. Because there aren't any. Only copies.

Converse 1984 vintage sneaker ad for the Laser, Force-5 and Phaeton

Below is a 1984 vintage sneaker ad for the Converse Laser, Force-5 and Phaeton. Converse developed these runners with sports podiatrist Dr. Lloyd Smith in an effort to reduce pronation and protect the knee. Outside of that this ad brings another 1980’s Tron style light grid.

Ad info is below:

CONVERSE STABILIZER-BAR SHOES It's a fact. The average runner comes down with 500 pounds of force every time the foot impacts the ground. Combine this kind of force with excessive pronation—a knee-twisting side-to-side foot motion—and it can cause serious knee problems, the leading form of running injury. Converse patented Stabilizer-Bars have been developed by Converse at their biomechanics facility in collaboration with Dr. Lloyd Smith, Sports Podiatrist. They help reduce pronation and protect the knee. And since runners experience varying degrees of prona-don, we built varying degrees of stabilization into three different shoe models.

To find out which model best fits your running needs, take the quiz on the left; Converse Stabilizer-Bar Shoes. We design them the way we design all our athletic shoes. By studying our top athletes, we're able to come up with improved biomechanical designs. That's why they're made for the part of the body that running is hardest on. The knees.
